The initial consultation

The initial consultation carried out prior to your first massage has three main purposes.

• Massage is a very safe therapy.  There may be times, however,  when massage is inappropriate, so prior to your first treatment  you will be asked some questions about your medical history  and present state of health.

This may also identify specific parts of the body which may not be  massaged or perhaps a medical problem which may need the  written permission of your doctor before a massage can be  carried out.

If you are at all unsure about whether massage is suitable for you  please  ring to discuss prior to making a firm booking.

• The massage therapist wants to give you a treatment that is a  relaxing and refreshing experience which is relevant to your  particular needs.  To do this you will also ask you some  additional questions about your lifestyle and any particular  problems areas you may have on the day, such as a sore back  from gardening or a tension headache!

• To enjoy your massage, you need to feel comfortable and  secure.  Although massage therapy is many thousands of years  old, many different styles have developed over the centuries.   Whether this is your first massage or your fiftieth, the initial  consultation gives you the opportunity to ask questions of  your own.

Subsequent consultations

A shorter consultation is also always carried out before any subsequent treatments to take account of any new information such as changes in medication, recent accidents, operations or injuries or any particular problems being experienced that day.
